Events

SED runs a series of diverse forums and events on an annual basis which highlight issues of regional interest and significance. These events and forums bring regional stakeholders together to exchange information and ideas or to facilitate further action.

The forums and events which are conducted are related to the priorities identified in the 3 year Strategic Regional Plan. In 2007/2008 the SED Board has decided to focus on issues of transport infrastructure, telecommunications and climate change with a number of forums being on these topics. All these events are held in partnership with regional stakeholders such a local government and SED also partners with local organisations to hold events that focus on attracting young people to careers in areas of skills shortage in the region – for example, manufacturing and building and construction.

Carbon Trading Forum

Due to ‘popular demand’ a third Carbon Trading Breakfast Forum is being held in the City of Kingston.

Jack Holden will again be the keynote speaker, and will provide current information about carbon trading and the Emissions Trading Scheme - including its likely impacts and the risks and opportunities it poses for the economy, individual sectors and small to medium companies.

Australia will join in global efforts for responding to climate change with a national Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) from 2010. Emissions reporting for large polluters begins July 2008.
